Did you know the J.N in J.N.Rusticus are the initials of founder Joe Nicholson?
A true entrepreneur, aged just 21, Joe set out on a trip to India to source a trusted supplier of furniture. Inspired by his family home, Joe was seeking high quality, unusual and rustic pieces that told a story.
After a successful trip, Joe returned home with a clear vision and the beginnings of a plan.
A website was set up, the unique furniture was shipped overseas and the business began.
This first shipment included pieces of reclaimed boat wood furniture which was popular at the time. Although unintentional, the recycled and sustainable nature of this kind of furniture sparked an interest between the company and its valued customers. This ethos is now at the heart of what JNR do, striving to produce a planet and process friendly business.
After a year or so solo, Joes sister, Charlie came on board. With a background in design and a true love of interiors, this meant that furniture could now be designed in house, along with other creative elements like photography and styling.
J.N.Rusticus is still ran by just Joe and Charlie, who work closely together and are happy to be getting busier each month! They work from an office/showroom/warehouse that is crafted from converted shipping containers and based in Teeside in the North East of England. All products are designed, collections are curated, photoshoots are take place and orders are picked and shipped from this base.
We aspire to be a destination for distinctive yet timeless furniture that brings rustic charm and character to any home. We hope you enjoy J.N.Rusticus as much as we do!
